I should have known to check my friend Sara’s blog for a Thanksgiving tag! If you’re ever looking for a tag to take part in, she always has the BEST ones!

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? As I said, mine is pretty low-key, but this year was especially so. It was just my friend and I (hi, Laura!), and something was wrong with everything we made. The green beans were too salty, the stuffing was chewy, the chicken was undercooked, and we thought we wouldn’t miss the mashed potatoes so we didn’t even make them (BIG MISTAKE DO NOT ATTEMPT). Luckily, we are an easy-going sort, so the discovery of how messed up our meal was was met with so much laughter at the dinner table that we cried.

P.S. I don’t have a real table so we have to sit on the floor at this little side table thing. It is terribly uncomfortable.

BREAD | what book is purely fluff, and has no real plot line?

The Rules of Rebellion, by Amity Hope. This book was super boring and super cheesy. And it was definitely full of fluff with very little plot.

TURKEY | what book made you want to fall asleep?

The Afterlife of Holly Chase, by Cynthia Hand. I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get through it. I wanted to fall asleep every time I was reading it, and eventually I just gave up.

GRAVY | what book makes the whole series worth reading?

I’m going to stick with Sara’s answer here. The Raven Cycle series starts out a little slowly. The Raven Boys is good, but it’s once we get more of Ronan and dream thievery in The Dream Thieves that things really kick into high gear.

STUFFING | what book is stuffed full of action scenes?

An Ember in the Ashes, by Sabaa Tahir. I ended up not finishing the series because it kind of went downhill for me, but the debut was awesome, and packed with action from start to finish.

MASHED POTATOES | what book looked good, and then wasn’t?

Summer Unscripted, by Jen Klein. I adored Jen’s debut, Shuffle, Repeat so I was crazy excited for her next book, but this one just didn’t do it for me at all.

PSA-as someone who didn’t make mashed potatoes this year, I advise you not to make the same mistake in your lifetime. I don’t know why anyone might think they weren’t good, but they are EXCELLENT, and should always be at your Thanksgiving table, thanks for coming to my ted talk.

CRANBERRIES | what book has the sweetest romance?

Jase and Samantha from My Life Next Door, by Huntley Fitzpatrick. They have the sweetest romance, and it’s such fun watching them fumble through all of their firsts together in the most meaningful and caring way.

CORN | what’s the corniest book you’ve ever read?

The Promise of Amazing, by Robin Constantine. I had not read any positive reviews of this book but it sounded so cute and the cover was adorable so I decided to try it anyway. But ugh the writing was so cheesy and so corny.

GREEN BEANS | what book is too long and needs to be shortened?

The Passage, by Justin Cronin. I liked this book, but it’s 766 pages and way too long. From what I remember, it had a lot of descriptive writing that could be cut down.

PUMPKIN PIE | what book do you read to get out of a reading slump?

Jen Lancaster can always get me out of a slump. Her fiction isn’t always my favorite, but give me one of her memoirs and I’ll read and reread every word a thousand times.

DOG/CAT | what’s your favorite Thanksgiving food that you would steal from the table?

My favorite? Stuffing, but this one is tricky. I’m allergic to onions, so stuffing usually has to be made specifically for me because onion generally goes in every single recipe out there. Once I started cooking my own Thanksgiving dinners and knew for sure that my stuffing was onionless? I can eat platefulls of the stuff now. Also, canned cranberry sauce!
