Mid-Year Freakout Book Tag

lion king panic

I’m woefully behind on my reviews (as usual), my Top Ten Tuesdays, and will I ever actually do my Yallwest write-up? ‘Tis a mystery!

But I’ve read a lot of books this year, even though Goodreads tells me I am 32 behind schedule, so let’s do this thing.

1. Best book that you’ve read so far in 2019?

If you didn’t already know that Red, White & Royal Blue was going to be on here, you haven’t been paying much attention around here. I’ve only read it like 6 or 7 times or something so far. I suspected Have a Little Faith in Me would be high on the list, but had no idea it would skyrocket to the top spot so fast. I’m SO LUCKY I got to read an ARC of this one, ya’ll are in for a TREAT when it comes out in September!

2. Best sequel that you’ve read so far in 2019?

I actually don’t think I’ve read a sequel so far this year? Several series starters, but no continuations. I have a couple I need to get to, though.

3. New release that you haven’t read yet but want to?

meet cute

I don’t usually read a lot of adult fiction, but Meet Cute just sounds so, well, cute.

4. Most anticipated release for the next half of 2019?

So many, like WOW, so so many. Permanent Record is just one of the many that’s coming up soon. There are approximately a billion more in the rest of 2019, all the way into the first half of 2020 already.

5. Biggest disappointment of 2019?

quarentine

You would think I’d know by know that not every quarantine/disaster/ELE book or movie is going to be good. You would think I would read the reviews and choose my media appropriately.

You would think, that I wouldn’t read every single disaster-type book, just like Quarantine, forever and ever, world without end.

6. Biggest surprise of 2019?

rules we're meant to break

I thought this one would be fine. I didn’t expect to love it. (Would change the title, however. Something about Rules We’re Meant to Break just does not roll off the tongue for me).

7. Favorite new (or new to you) author?

if you're out there

I actually have many favorite new authors this year. Casey McQuiston and Sonia Hartl, specifically. But in an effort not to repeat any books this year, I’m picking Katy Loutzenhiser, author of If You’re Out There. Still in awe over the way she put me in a contemporary romance/friend drama for so much of the book and then all of a sudden switched me seamlessly into a thriller HOW DO YOU DO THAT

8. Newest fictional crush?

I cannot pick just one. Sorry.

Caleb (The Deceivers), Logan (If You’re Out There), Hugo (Field Notes on Love), Oscar (Night Music), Roo (The Rest of the Story), Jordan (Rules We’re Meant to Break), Tucker (How the Light Gets In), Paul (Have a Little Faith in Me) I’M SORRY IF I MISSED YOU I LOVE YOU

9. Newest favorite character?

Alexander Claremont-Diaz from Red, White & Royal Blue. He’s a mess, a trouble-maker, he’s an international incident-starter, and he’s The Best.

10. A book that made you cry?

Ugh fine I didn’t want to keep using the same books but I’m sorry, Red, White & Royal Blue. I happy-cried, sad-cried, and stress-cried all within the span of a single chapter at one point.

11. A book that made you happy?

Heartstopper is freaking adorable. I read it in one sitting and need the next one now now now.

12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year?

It’s possible…that I’ve seen none this year so far? There are a couple coming out but I don’t think very many that have released yet.

13. Favorite review you’ve written this year?

Sadly, I think it’s my review of If You’re Out There, which is lost to all time from an unfortunate website issue.

The Birds, the Bees, and You and Me is another one I really liked that didn’t get much engagement. It was technically posted in 2018, but it was mid-December so I’m giving myself a pass.

14. The most beautiful book you’ve bought or received in 2019?

Do subscription box books count? I’m going with yes. So the Illumicrate Aurora Rising with the hot pink edges, and the Fairyloot Beholder with the pale pink edges.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of 2019?

Why is this even a question? Is there anyone alive who can actually answer it because I would like to meet them.
