October Wrap-Up

Monthly Wrap-Up

Welcome to my second wrap-up post! Are these worth it? Do y’all like the super tiny reviews, not to be confused with my mini reviews, or my regular reviews?

WHAT I READ:

I Hope You Get This Message, by Farah Naz Rishi
I really thought I was going to like this one more, but it ended up at just about 3 stars for me. There were pieces that were interesting but ultimately I found the ending really dissatisfying.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: Uhh Adeem you never seen a tampon before?

Together We Caught Fire, by Eva V. Gibson
Favorite read of the month, though it was a close call! I just posted my review here, which took me forever to write because I loved the book so much I couldn’t figure out what to say.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: Homemade kombucha!

Break the Fall, by Jennifer Iacopelli
As a former gymnast myself, I loved this one. Not a lot to say right now, because I’m in the middle of writing a review. It’ll be up soon and you’ll see all my thoughts then!
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: Teal everywhere I’m not crying you’re crying.

Fireborne, by Rosaria Munda
I liked this in the end, but it took me a long time to get through. I had to pause twice to read other books, which is not at all like me. I had heard such good things about it that I wanted to finish, and I’m not sorry I did. It ended well, but it took SO long to get to the bulk of the action that I don’t know if I’ll continue with the series.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: Man, Duck is a really nice guy.

Sick Kids In Love, by Hannah Moskowitz
Despite a title that leaves something to be desired, this one really hit home with me, since I’m also a girl living with an invisible illness and look fine 99% of the time. Review coming for this one soon as well.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: He does FRENCH BRAIDS?!

Throw Like a Girl, by Sarah Henning
There’s no way Liv would be recruited so easily to the football team and not a single guy on the team or opposing teams would say shit but WHO CARES this was still fairly delightful.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: *Spoiler*’s concussion is obviously going to be a thing, right?

Gravemaidens, by Kelly Coon
A lot different than I thought it would be, and the story is good, truly. But I figured out who was really doing everything from the jump, so all the red herrings and the entire second act were sort of a bore for me, as I waited for them to figure it out.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: GIRL, YOU IN DANGER TOO!

Call Down the Hawk, by Maggie Stiefvater
*whispers* don’t hate me I got to read a friend’s copy
IT’S AS AMAZING AS YOU THINK IT WILL BE I CAN SAY NOTHING ELSE
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: I really wish I’d reread the Raven Cycle first (Let this be a lesson to the rest of you)

The Guinevere Deception, by Kiersten White
I am so disappointed in everyone who didn’t give this 5 stars on Goodreads, because this was amazing. I adored this Camelot retelling, and can’t wait for the next installment.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: I AM SHOOK!

When the Stars Lead to You, by Ronni Davis
This had a lot of excellent mental health rep that I was not at all expecting. I thought it was going to be a very light and fluffy beach read and it was not at all that.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: This is SUPER MELODRAMATIC but also bringing back every romantic feeling I ever had in HS and I’m almost crying

What I Like About You, by Marisa Kanter
I CAN’T BELIEVE I GOT TO TRADE FOR THIS BOOK AHHHH. Expect a full and long review to come, but here’s the gist: I loved every second of this love-triangle-with-two-people, book blogger, cupcake making, cover revealing, and talking about BookCon novel.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: Ollie=wise beyond his years, queen of queens

Yes No Maybe So, by Becky Albertalli & Aisha Saeed
Suuuper timely, way more about politics and way less about Jamie and Maya having to navigate their way through a cross-cultural romance because really that’s the least of their problems.
Favorite nonsense excerpt from my notes: The love for Target is fantastic.

TOTAL BOOKS READ: 12

TOTAL PAGES READ: 4,671

Alright, there you have it! Will I keep these up? Will they go the way of WWW Wednesday? WHO KNOWS??

Call Down the Hawk should be mine tomorrow and I’m so excited!!! Favorite character love his gift, his relationship so I’m happy to hear it stands up. I’m reading the Guinevere Deception right now and really enjoying it. I’m enjoying Modred seems like an interesting take on his character.
